Reddaway’s classic work’s use of the word ‘Russia’, though probably chosen by the publisher not the author, indicates the uncertainty of the scope of the subject matter.

The Bolshevik ‘Revolution’ {coup d’etat} in November [New Style] 1917 preserved the Tsarist Empire for another 74 years, by formally allowing — despite Stalin’s and, later, Putin’s disapproval — the use of ethnic languages and promotion of national culture in Central Asia and within Russia itself.
