43.2 Traditional Days of Protest in the Soviet Union

[(1a) 30 October was first marked as Political Prisoners’ Day in 1974, see Chronicle 33.1. The USSR ratified the International Covenant on Political and Civil Rights in 1973 and its provisions came into force in March 1976.

43.6 The Helsinki Groups — Moscow and Ukraine

43.11 Persecution of Participants in a Religious Seminar

[1] The Religious-Philosophical Society was set up in Moscow in 1906. Its debates and discussions, and those held in the Society in Petersburg, formed part of the Orthodox Renaissance of the early 20th century [JC].

[2] The Messenger of the Russian Christian Movement (Vestnik Russkogo khristyanskogo dvizheniya) was an emigre publication, first published in France in 1925. Its chief editor after 1969 was Nikita Struve. The inclusion of material from the USSR and its clandestine circulation in the Soviet Union was denoted after 1974 by the indicated place of publication “Paris-New York-Moscow” [JC].
